I’ve been speaking quite a bit about how much I love the Centro smartphones by Palm, and why I think it’s going to be a sleeper hit, and now someone finally concurs with me. That someone is JPMorgan, who upgraded Palm’s stock to “buy” on the strength of the Centro and it’s impending launch on AT&T sometime next week.
See, the Centro is affordable, just the right size, and easy enough for the Casual Smartphone User™, which is set to be the fastest growing new smartphone market globally. It’s also powerful enough to do what most users need, and has a consumer-friendly form factor.
The “buy” rating made the stock jump, now up 12% over yeasterday. This is good news for Palm, a company many think is on the brink of failure. It’s true Palm’s been all over the board lately, but it seems to now have its focus back, and it’s good to have it back in play.

It’s over, and Blu-ray wins. The main backer of the HD DVD format for next-gen video discs, Toshiba, has itself withdrawn from production of stated discs. Without Toshiba to lead the way, HD DVD is more or less a done format.
We feel bad for supporters of the format, but they welcoming arms of Blu-ray will be open, waiting to embrace you and make you feel sorry of ever doubting it.
And to everyone who I’ve had Blu-ray vs. HD DVD arguments with in the last three years: Yes, you told me so, now STFU.

This is interesting because a new PS3 is rumored to be on the way any day, meaning that if the price is right, PS3 might bump Nintendo and get first place, which means I’d owe my buddies Paul and Natelie a drink in San Francisco.
