Ready to have your brain blown out through the top of your head? Look above — you’re staring at the heretofore unseen BlackBerry clamshell, the Kickstart. The Boy Genius snagged a handful of photos of the device (which apparently he’s known about for “a while”), and has decided to share his good fortune with the rest of the world. The phone sports a Pearl-esque keyboard, typical trackball navigation, and apparently utilizes both an internal and external LCD screen. No word on specs, carriers, or a release date, but BGR is saying this puppy is due before the end of the year. You’ll know more when we know more!

Oh, to be a fly on the wall in one of those meetings once in a while where product names get hammered out. Seriously, what possessed Movistar to latch on to “Touch Find” for this one? Was HTC’s own name, Touch Cruise, not good enough for ‘em? Or heck, how about the Xda Orbit 2 (pictured) moniker used by Movistar’s own O2 subsidiary? Alas, yeah, the latest rumor here’s that the Touch Cruise will be christened Touch Find for Movistar’s networks, featuring 3.6Mbps HSDPA, WiFi, GPS, and a 3 megapixel cam. We don’t know for certain whether the Touch Find will adopt the O2’s same pebble-esque case or the Touch Cruise’s harder lines, but it certainly seems like it’d make more sense to be consistent within the company ranks and go Xda Orbit 2-style. Then again, the name change itself doesn’t seem to make much sense, so who knows?

Stores have started stocking up on Vus ahead of their launch next week, and we’re getting a little photography here to prove it. It looks like this one is an honest-to-goodness CU920, too, meaning it sports MediaFLO reception — either that, or AT&T was too lazy to put the Mobile TV-less CU915 model in a different package without the “TV” icon on the screen. We’re still hearing Might 5 is the official launch day for these, but it seems some locations are selling early, so try your luck and let us know how it goes, k?

Turns out the Glyde’s gonna have to share the spotlight a bit when it launches early next month. The Curve 8330 has been confirmed by our sources for a May 9 release through Verizon’s B2B, web, and telesales channels, followed by a Might 12 launch in “all channels” (which we assume means you’ll be able to walk into any old store and grab one). It’ll go for $319.99 before $50 rebate on a two-year contract, ranging all the way up to $439.99 if you’ve no interest in signing your name on the dotted line. ‘Course, Sprint told us point-blank that it’d be launching the Curve in April and that didn’t exactly pan out, so we suggest exercising some restraint here until your jaded heart actually spies it on Verizon’s site — or superior yet, on a store shelf.

There’s a company in the UK called SuperMario Plumbing and Heating. There’s a company in the UK called SuperMario Plumbing and Heating. The owner, Mariusz “Mario” Gruzka, though likely not Italian, could perhaps pass as a real life version of the Mario that most of us know and love. He’s no Captain Lou Albano from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show (remember Zelda Fridays?), but he’ll do.
There’s some loose speak going around the ‘net as to the legalities of a company called SuperMario Plumbing and Heating, but here’s to hoping that everyone can just have a nice, healthy chuckle and move forward without too much trouble.

We’ve learned from a trusted source that one of the jewels in Verizon’s summer 2008 crown, the Samsung Glyde, will finally freaking launch on Might 9. Despite a wealth of both in-the-wild and press quality photography of the phone over the past few weeks, it’s been less and less clear when exactly Verizon was planning on actually offering it, so we’re glad to finally have a date — particularly taking into account that it’s less than two weeks away. That’ll give the Glyde a few comfortable weeks atop the heap ahead of the Dare’s arrival, so like it while you can, Samsung.
Update: It’ll be $299.99 on a two-year plan before rebate, $369.99 on a one-year, and $419.99 with no strings attached.

As we hurl headlong toward HTC’s May 6 date with destiny, the Diamond is looking more and more like the headlining act for the unveiling — but what’s it gonna look like when they turn it on? Screen shots of a purported Diamond have turned up on Chinese site PDAFans, and if they turn out to be legit, the answer is “pretty much like any other Windows Mobile 6.1 device.” One of the Diamond’s alleged claims to fame is a revamped TouchFLO interface, though we’re not really seeing a heck of a lot of that here; just a whole lotta plain-vanilla WinMo that has us thinking that this is either fake or an early prototype with an particularly barren build loaded. Doesn’t really matter how hot the hardware ends up being — unless HTC manages to impress with the software visuals, we suspect there are going to be a lot of disappointed people when this one starts shipping.

British carrier O2 has added the previously Vodaphone-exclusive Treo 500 to its roster of business class smartphones. O2 is offering Palm’s latest Windows Mobile handset for free with certain data and voice plans, which is probably the only way the company could get anyone to take these underwhelming hunks of plastic off their hands.

Taking into account that some countries are mulling the idea of making texting a recognized subject and allowing students to use text-speak on exams, we suppose it’s not too outrageous to hear of handsets being used as educational tools and not seen as a hindrance. Nokia has teamed up with Mindset Network in order to spearhead the M4Girls pilot project, which utilizes Nokia 6300 handsets loaded with educational material to “help improve the mathematics performance of Grade 10 girl learners.” Reportedly, the initiative will be piloted in two South African schools, and students lucky enough to take advantage will have access to educational games and other material created to meet the needs of the national curriculum. No word on whether the program will filter out to other locations if it proves successful, but here’s to hoping that eventually gets answered with a resounding “yes.”
