Seems a tiny bizarre that AT&T would choose to launch white and lime over this more conservative choice — but they did, and our Mexican friends get to reap the benefits. The blue variant of the GSM Centro is available via Telcel and Movistar — exclusivity’s apparently not an issue here — and offers specs that are otherwise unchanged from its international cousins. Eh, on second thought, we think we like the white superior anyway.

On a very popular, very exclusive, cat-themed video game BitTorrent tracker, Final Fantasy Crisis Core is the number one downloaded game. I bring this up for several reasons. One, BitTorrent downloads are a decent method to determine a game’s popularity among hardcore gamers. I know, or at least think, because my most hardcore gaming days coincided with rampant piracy. DreamCast, Xbox1, you name it. Two, the PSP wasn’t doing too hot for a while there (especially because of the success of the Nintendo DS) and FF:CC was widely regarded as one of the portable system’s killer apps. That and the new God of War, which is the number three most downloaded game.

Scientific? Absolutely not. In fact, it’s antithetical to science. But, it puts the game’s success into a very special perspective.

The Aple iPhone Ad

Okay, let’s just say this upfront: if this were real, it would’ve been lawyered into oblivion by now; Apple would’ve done everything in its power to make sure that every last trace of the image had been wiped off the interwebs. Be that as it might, we still think this image of a Photoshopped or physically modded iPhone (or both) makes for an interesting jumping-off point for discussion over the inevitable materialization of the so-called iPhone 2 in the near future: what do you want it to look like? We know 3G is in the cards, but we really haven’t spent a lot of time obsessing over what physical changes could / should be in store. So yeah, let’s all go ahead and get into it — meanwhile, we’ll be over here in the corner with our already black, already 3G, already open N95 8GB trying to figure out why Creatures of the Deep is an N-Gage launch title.

On a typical day, anything shown off at CTIA with a “coming in 2010″ sticker would cause some serious unrest, but given that we’ve already found that LTE is eons (or so it feels) away, we’re just taking things in stride. The MSV prototype shown above will purportedly become a proud member of the L-Series, and its satellite / cellular hybrid system will enable it to play nice on traditional cell bands as well as snag sat coverage anywhere in North America. Apparently the firm is planning on shooting up a pair of birds in 2009 as well as landing a deal with an undisclosed US carrier, and the 0.6-inch thick unit itself should feature a 480 x 320 multi-touch screen, WiFi and an integrated camera. No word on a price just yet, but feel free to check back in a few years.

After some serious neglect, Sprint is finally giving the Nextel iDEN network some new devices, not the least of which is a WiFi BlackBerry, states Sprint CEO Dan Hesse. The phone will hit the network “later this year,” and will be accompanied by phones from Sanyo, Samsung, Motorola and LG that’ll rock the Sprint CDMA, but will use Nextel capabilities for push-to-talk. That old 7100i (pictured) doesn’t stand a chance.

Well, what do you know? We heard that RIM was gearing up to ship BlackBerry handsets to Russia in 2008, and lo and behold, the addiction is indeed sliding over to the world’s largest country. British American Tobacco became the first client of BlackBerry service in the nation, and it’s being provided by the beautifully-named Vimpelcom. As expected, Vimpelcom’s customers will be handed the same 8700g model that was introduced to Chinese users when RIM broke into that territory last July. As it stands, the aforesaid operator is already in talks with some 40 more potential corporate clients, and rival Mobile TeleSystems is also getting set to unleash BB service with 30 corporate clients. Kudos, Russia — prepare for splintered relationships, 24 hour work days and a feeling of anxiety you can’t even fathom when service collapses for even a moment.
