Look! It’s pretty and free! Though of course you’re going to need a BlackBerry handset — or a couple — to make it all run smoothly, but we’re sure Bell will help with that bit. The BlackBerry Unite! collaboration package is designed for families and small businesses to give them features like calendar sharing, mail access — up to 10 accounts per person — shared contacts, and access to shared files on the PC where the software is installed. Of course, there’s a rub, the suite will only support 5 users, but that should hopefully float most peoples and some small home outfits boats. Now if only RIM would throw down some handsets to get the youngsters clamoring, then we’d really be speaking.

Some users have reported that the update causes their personal to endlessly reboot, something a few updates for Windows 95 did over a decade ago. Intel users appear to be in the clear, the problem affects computers with AMD chipsets primarily. Some Intel machines have the problem, but not many. So far Microsoft is mum on the issue, though we’re confident that it has a team working on the issue day and night, fueled by Sparks. Filed under: Handsets, LG, Sony Ericsson, ATT, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS ![]() That black LG Shine we’d heard AT&T would be picking up is finally starting to trickle into stores, along with a green rendition of the Sony Ericsson W580i — a phone that’s no stranger to new paint jobs. Neither device is up on AT&T’s site yet, so as of now, it looks like the only way to pick these two up is going to be to mosey on down to your local retailer. Sorry, couch potatoes! [Thanks, BrainsOnTheMonitor] Oh, there are plenty of bad Chinese iPhone knockoffs out there, but the HiPhone may be the reigning champion these days — so it kind of seemed like a matter of time before Apple loosed the hounds on distributors of the device. We don’t have confirmation or proper human translation of the above legal notice, but it would appear Apple’s European counsel Bird & Bird has delivered at least one notice to an unnamed distributor threatening €25,000 in damages (and €15,000 in legal fees) for HiPhone sales. Hardly the case of the century, but we’ll let you know if we hear anything. [Thanks, Ricardo] Update: Reader Ben W hooked us up with a translation of the letter; we can’t vouch for its veracity, but it’s posted after the break if you want to check it out. Thanks, Ben! Continue reading Apple finally setting its legal sights on the HiPhone? Filed under: Handsets, LG, Samsung, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS ![]() In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a battle raging for the hearts and minds of Europeans looking for a fashionable slider with a powerhouse camera. Both Samsung and LG are stepping up to the plate to address that very specific need this summer, with Samsung delivering the u900 Soul — a phone it claims will be the last in its Ultra line — and LG bringing the similarly named (and similarly spec’d) KF750 Secret. Initial reviews for both devices seem overwhelmingly positive, so don’t anticipate them to necessarily help you select which one to buy; instead, we suspect it might come down to brand preference, the Soul’s nifty OLED d-pad, and the Secret’s touchscreen. Both have HSDPA 2100 while rejecting North America’s 3G airwaves, so for some of us, this battle is a bit of a moot point — but for the rest of you, best of luck picking your ‘08 weapon of choice. Newsflash! Firmware 2.0 hints suggest Apple might be working on a 3G iPhonePosted by: admin in Mobile TechFiled under: Handsets, Software, HSDPA, UMTS, Apple, OS X You’ll never believe this, but it looks like Cupertino might be getting ready to drop a bomb this summer — a 3G bomb, in fact! The latest beta release of firmware 2.0 for the iPhone has apparently revealed a preference screen that grants users of the new model to disable the 3G radio and fall back to GPRS / EDGE because the faster service “decreases battery life.” Gotta pay to play, as they say. The capability to disable 3G service in favor of improved standby performance is a pretty common one in modern phones, so we’re not surprised to see it here — just a tiny disappointed that Apple hasn’t incorporated enough fairy dust to magically make the problem go away. |
