ZDNet Germany is reporting that Intel head Hannes Schwaderer stated that an upcoming iPhone will have an Atom processor and a larger screen. I’m calling bullshit.

I don’t care if you’re the head of the Yakuza — you don’t speak about iPhone unless Steve is sitting on your shoulders and controlling your mouth with wires.

The new screen is rumored to be 720 x 480 pixels which is a bit more widescreen than the current 640 x 480. My biggest problem, however, is that this was stated by an Intel head in Germany at some Intel event. This isn’t exactly the burning bush on Mount Olympus. It could happen, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Certain features we really never get tired of reporting, because, well, they’re far rarer than they should be. Case in point: the elusive 3.5mm headphone jack, a drop-dead obvious spec that grants real, actual headphones to be plugged in without the aid of a device curiously referred to as a “dongle” in some circles. The LG KM501 for the Taiwanese market is pretty plain by most definitions — 2 megapixel camera, dedicated music controls, polarizing black / red styling, EDGE data, microSD slot, and A2DP — but the thing that keeps drawing us back in is that darned jack. Why don’t all phones have one of these? Can someone please explain that to us in easy terms? No word on if or when this one might be found outside of Taiwan, which as far as we’re concerned, is a travesty for real headphone lovers everywhere.

For some, living in a country where BlackBerrys were outright banned would be a fate far, far worse than death — you know who you’re — but for South Koreans, that nightmarish scenario is a reality. Weird rules and regulations in the country make it difficult for foreign manufacturers to gain the same foothold that domestic powerhouses like Samsung and LG enjoy, and RIM in particular has been a total no-show. Turns out CEO Jim Balsillie is paying a tiny visit to Seoul for the Organization on Economic Cooperation and Development’s Ministerial Meeting on the Future World wide web Economy next month though (goodness, what a mouthful), and the Korea Communications Commission felt just a tiny silly about his visit in light of a nationwide RIM ban, lifting it just enough to allow SK Telecom to start selling the mobile email maestros to companies. Individual sales, not so much — but you’ve got to begin somewhere, we suppose. If all goes well, devices should go on sale some time in July or August with service running some 26,000 won (about $25) per month.

3M has been touting its mini-projectors for some time now (along with many others), but it looks like they’re now finally a bit closer to landing in an actual product, with Samsung reportedly set to begin offering them later this year. What’s not clear, unfortunately, is whether the projectors will actually be built into the cellphones (and if so, which ones), or simply offered as an attachment of some sort, but either way you can apparently expect to pay between $200 and $400 for the opportunity to spread a bit of visual pollution.

Buried underneath the hoopla surrounding the announcement of ASUS’ Lamborghini-branded ZX1 at CeBIT, the more mellow P560 was also announced, featuring pretty much each spec the average WinMo buyer could want these days in a package that talks far, far less about the vehicle you’re driving (or wish you were driving, anyway). HSDPA, WiFi, 3.2 megapixel autofocus cam, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, GPS, microSDHC slot, 256MB of ROM, 128MB of RAM, and Microsoft’s freshest build of Windows Mobile Professional — 6.1, that’s — all have managed to find their way into the P560’s unassuming shell. Not bad, though the €500 (about $772) price tag could scare a few folks away when it launches next month.
