Canada, HSDPA. What’s the first carrier that comes to mind? No, not Fido, silly — Rogers, of course! Makes a lot of sense, then, that Canada’s GSM behemoth would be getting dibs on RIM’s HSDPA-compatible hotness, the Bold — not to say we didn’t expect it, anyway — and a new page posted over on Rogers’ site encourages interested individuals to sign up to be notified when the device becomes available in their neck of the woods. Unfortunately, there’s nary a clue here on exactly when Rogers customers will be able to mosey into the store of their choice and pick one up, but “summer” is a safe (and vague) bet.

We’ve had a bit of speak lately about picoprojecters, the little, low-powered projectors that’ll someday be fitted into portable electronics. We’ve had a bit of talk lately about picoprojecters, the tiny, low-powered projectors that will someday be fitted into portable electronics. Samsung’s taking a lead in this field, claiming that it will debut phones this year with the little projectors included, courtesy of 3M. No word if we’re getting these or if it’s another “Asia has better stuff than us” thing, but if we do see them this year, we’ll be excited.
Don’t expect the debut projectors to be fantastic; don’t forget that the cameras in the first cameraphones absolutely, completely sucked, but now we’ve 5-Megapixel shooters with auto-focus. In a few years, this will be the way we all watch porn.

Certain features we really never get tired of reporting, because, well, they’re far rarer than they should be. Case in point: the elusive 3.5mm headphone jack, a drop-dead obvious spec that allows real, actual headphones to be plugged in without the aid of a device curiously referred to as a “dongle” in some circles. The LG KM501 for the Taiwanese market is pretty plain by most definitions — 2 megapixel camera, dedicated music controls, polarizing black / red styling, EDGE data, microSD slot, and A2DP — but the thing that keeps drawing us back in is that darned jack. Why don’t all phones have one of these? Can someone please explain that to us in easy terms? No word on if or when this one might be found outside of Taiwan, which as far as we’re concerned, is a travesty for real headphone lovers everywhere.
