Following the grand reveal of the latest Android build running on fresh HTC-sourced hardware at I/O this day, Google took some questions that managed to pull a few extra gems from the rough. First and foremost, key specs of that lovely piece of kit were exposed: 3.6Mbps HSDPA is on board, as is a Qualcomm MSM7201A processor good for 528MHz, 128MB of RAM, 256MB of ROM, a capacitive touchscreen, and the key to our hearts. Despite that capacitive action, it was reiterated that Android is designed to work with a wide variety of form factors — everything from touchscreens to QWERTY keypads to devices with no screen at all (!!) — so fans of physical input methods definitely needn’t fret in the least. New features demoed for the first time this day include a configurable home screen launcher, accelerometer integration in Google Maps’ Street View, Pacman (which we have the ability to only assume will become the Solitaire of Android), and a new unlock UI for touchscreen-based devices. Some of the stuff shown was coded at the very last minute; they pointed out that the clock, for example, had just been thrown together yesterday, so they’re definitely flying by the seat of their pants here — a good thing for speeding up device availability, we figure.

We’ve seen plenty of gear co-branded by high-end automakers, but only Ducati’s really putting out bike-themed gear, and the latest gadget to get dressed up in cycle gear is the Sony Ericsson Z770 flip phone. Due out in Italy this June, the Ducati Z770 isn’t anything particularly special apart from that paint job and a special Ducati-themed HBH DS-220 headset, but if you’re into tri-band GSM non-smartphones with slightly superior browsers, it’s not a bad piece of kit. Just remember to take your keys out of your bike when you wander off chatting away, alright?

Word on the street is that Google just busted out a live demo of the oft-rumored HTC Dream doing its Android-flavored thing at the company’s I/O conference in San Francisco. Reports tell us that the device is a roughly 3-inch by 5-inch touchscreen phone with a slider keyboard. Not a lot is known right now, though apparently the device packs an accelerometer which allows you to tilt the unit to scroll across Google Maps or Street View. A video is on the way, so stay tuned for more information (and images) as we get them.

Update: Video after the break!

HTC Raphael MDA Vario IV

Without much ado, the HTC Raphael, now called the T-Mobile MDA Vario IV in Europe, will hit streets sometime in Q2 2008. As for specs, we’re looking at 158 grams, 300 minutes of talk time, 480×640 pixel screen, tri-band GSM, a 528MHz processor, 256MB on-board RAM, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, FM radio, and a 3.2MP camera. Don’t anticipate a stateside release — at least in this incarnation — given the tri-band action, so we’ll continue to hold out for the Sprint version.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
