Blackberry Bold hands-on

We had a chance to play with Research In Motion’s upcoming BlackBerry Bold handset tonight, and we came away happily impressed. To begin things off, the keyboard felt simple enough to use, at least easier than the 8830 we’re often forced to use for work email. Gone are the sharp protrusions, replaced with a nice flat surface upon which to click.

Of note was the Bold’s user interface. Menus are clean and simple to read (despite some strange icon choices, see below), and response time is about as swift as one could hope, especially compared to other phones out there that seem to struggle with their operating systems.

Suzuka-based Topia Corp. presented an electric car during the 19th Design Engineering & Manufacturing Solutions Expo in Tokyo, which weighs just 150kg (330lb). The so-called Huvo is the prototype of a single seat mini car.

The Huvo is made of steel, aluminum, carbon fiber reinforced plastic and ABS resin. Topia says the prototype was completely produced in-house. According to the CEO, other companies trying to manufacture a comparable automobile would only be able to produce a car weighing as much as 300kg.

The company doesn’t mention the invention on its website and at this point, there is no information available regarding possible commercialization of the Huvo in the future.

BakelBlog discusses some of the filming restrictions proposed in the UK and the resulting reactions of “community support officers” when folks try to film in public streets.

The same issues are cropping up here in the U.S. and just to recap regarding U.S. law: you can film in a public place but not in a private place. You’ve no expectation of privacy in most public places, although you can have an expectation that you won’t suffer privacy invasion (i.e. someone won’t take upskirts of you on the bus). There aren’t many exceptions to this law but private locations, including building frontages, are sometimes considered private property.

OMG OMG OMG. I just woke up and it is like Christmas up in here. I tell you, I’m nerding out right now. I’ve been digging through all my old games looking for a Diablo fix lately: Titan Quest was good, Sacred was huge, Dungeon Siege II was almost as good as I remember, and Shadowgrounds was scary, but it goes without saying that the king of the hill has always been Diablo II.

Diablo III has been announced, and I’m waiting on the 800MB (!) gameplay trailer, which is being distributed via a dedicated torrent client. Don’t worry guys, I’ll seed (in like 3 days when it’s done — 72KB/s? Come on). In the meantime check out the shots I’ve got here and the shots they’ve got there.
