While “market sources” had already spoken of a deal with MTS to bring the iPhone 3G to Russia, local carrier MegaFon has stepped-to, ex-KGB-like and confirmed its own deal. In a terse, presumably shirt-less announcement made while fishing, Russia’s third largest carrier stated, “The sales of iPhone in Russia will begin this year.” The spokesman then shot and wrestled this endangered Tiger to the ground as proof of MegaFon’s superior 3G network.

So the massive rumor SanDisk is talking about is the one where Samsung purchases them, and royally screws over Toshiba. If this happens Samsung will be the top dog in flash memory (they’re already close). They’ll also have their hands on the many patents owned by SanDisk. If this rumor is true this could reshape the flash memory market.

Finally, after Yamaha, Marantz, Integra and Sharp all introduced ‘new’ Blu-ray players that support the old Blu-ray standard Profile 1.1, there is a new, high-end Blu-ray player that sports Blu-ray Profile 2.0; that means the NAD T 587 supports BD Live. Surprisingly though, this player hasn’t been announced yet, and no one at the NAD booth wanted to speak about the unit. So all we know is what the fact card states: Profile 2.0, BD Live, 1080p24/60, with a MSRP of $1,499. No word on which distribution channels the T 587 is going to ride on, nor when the player will be available but if more info comes our way, we’ll hit ya up. |
